It is up to us, and future generations, to continue to tell the stories of the last Holocaust survivors. It is up to us to learn from people who witnessed and survived the Holocaust to make sure their stories will remain alive, long after they’re gone.

Once a year, people from all around the world attend an event called March of the Living, in Poland and Israel. They learn about the heartbreaking history of the Holocaust from listening to survivors and walking the same grounds where six million Jews were murdered. Some people who attend may be standing in the same spot where the ancestors were killed.

After spending a week visiting camps, cemeteries and synagogues, everyone goes to Israel. The country became a place to call home for most Jews after the war.

We talked to March of the Living committee chair, Charlotte Katzen, about the importance of learning and talking about the holocaust. We also spoke with Amanda Markman, who attended March of the Living in 2015 and Giovanna Markman who is attending this year.

Click their video to hear what they have to say about their experience and duty to talk about the Holocaust.
